COURSES AT GOLDEN BAY HIGH SCHOOL |

Golden Bay High School is a Secondary School,
which caters for students in Years 7–13.
The school has modern
well-equipped teaching facilities including computer suites, gymnasium,
heated swimming
pool, music suite, photography darkroom, library, technology workrooms
and science laboratories. Golden Bay High School will assess prospective international students
and be satisfied on reasonable grounds that the students have the level
of English, oral and written competency for them to participate effectively
in their chosen programme of study. Students on their arrival may be
subject to an English language proficiency evaluation before course selection
is completed. |

Years 7 - 10
All students follow a compulsory "core", consisting of English, Mathematics,
Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Creative Design, Health, Information
Technology, Drama and Languages.
Year 11
New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement and/or New Zealand Unit Standards.
All students study English and/or Maori, plus four or five other subjects. The
courses will be assessed both internally and externally with ‘credits’ being
gained in each subject. A student needs to gain 80 credits to be awarded NCEA
Level 1. There is a minimum literacy and numeracy requirement at level 1.
Year 12
New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement and/or New Zealand Unit Standards.
Students will study 6 subjects of their choice. Whilst no subjects are compulsory,
most students will complete a mathematics and English programme.
NCEA level 2 Certificate is awarded to students who gain 60 credits at Level
2 and 20 credits at any other Level.

Year 13
New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement and/or New Zealand
Unit Standards.
Students choose five from the twelve subjects, which Golden Bay High
School offers. These are: English, Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Economics,
Geography, Physical Education, Photography, Painting, History.
Many subjects now need to have been studied at Year 12, but this is not essential.
NCEA level 3 Certificate is awarded to students who gain 60 credits at level
3 and 20 credits at any other level. |
