At Te Waka Kura o Mohua students prepare for the future by learning skills and knowledge, and developing the personal resources that are needed to live satisfying, balanced and responsible lives.

We cater for all students, whatever their needs. Part of our philosophy is to take into account the interests and abilities of each student. We devise individual program-mes to support maximum learning where necessary.

Please contact us if you need any further assistance - we would love to hear from you. Ake Ake Kia Kaha.

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Technology Block Opening
The newly refurbished Technology block was opened on Tuesday 28 April with a dawn blessing. This fantastic facility will serve students well in the years to come and support the development of skills and pathways into the trades. Thank you to everyone involved in the planning and execution of this project.

ANZAC Day
The ANZAC day service was held at the Tākaka Memorial Park on 25 April. We had three students speak at the service, along with three flag bearers. Thank you to all of these students for their contribution as we remember what has come before with a view to avoiding the mistakes of the past. The messages shared were poignant at a time of global unrest where acts of aggression are becoming increasingly common.

Early in term 2, we also held a full school ANZAC assembly to ensure all students had exposure to the important messages shared by our speakers. Thank you in particular to Noel Baigent, RSA President, for supporting this event. Lest we forget.

New Zealand’s Secondary Qualification System
In recent weeks, there has been some media coverage of the intended change to the secondary school qualification system. The Government is proposing changes to New Zealand’s qualification system, by replacing NCEA. The aim is to create a clearer, more consistent framework that supports deeper learning and better prepares students for pathways beyond school. While changes will take time to implement and detail is scarce at this stage, like all schools, we are working to understand what this means for teaching and learning, and how best to support students through the transition.

Variable Speed Limits Around Schools
To help keep young New Zealanders safe, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is setting a new variable speed limit that targets the times when young people are most active around schools.

As required by the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024, a variable speed limit of 30km/h will be implemented on state highway 60 (Commercial Street/Waitapu Road) outside of the school. The speed limit will be in place from 8:10am to 9:40am and 2:30pm to 3:50pm.

It is expected that the variable speed limit will be functional from late May onwards.
